Abstract

Peningkatan kadar karbonmonoksida yang signifikan pada perokok./ Background : Smoking is a habit that is often found in Indonesia, smoking is the main source of exposure to carbon monoxide (CO). Expiratory air CO levels can be used as biomarkers in smoking status. This study is to determine the relationship of expiratory air CO levels in smokers and nonsmokers. Due to the many complications due to the high level of CO intoxication in the body, so this research can provide knowledge to the wider community as well about this. Aim : To Identify the relationship between smoking status and carbon monoxide expiration level among visitors and patient at Siloam General Hospital Karawaci Method : Case control study is chosen as the method used in this research. Samples would be taken from Siloam General Hospital Karawaci using purposive sampling, targeting 36 patients as the subjects. The data would be collected by interviewing about smoking status and using CO analyzer between the time interval of January – February 2020. The result of this research would be processed under the Chi – Square analytic method using the program of IMB SPSS 23.0 version. Results: From the research results obtained there is a significant relationship between smoking status with expiratory carbon monoxide levels. In smokers, expiratory carbon monoxide levels are higher than in nonsmokers (p-value: 0.001). Conclusion: Higher levels of expiratory air CO in smokers compared to non- smokers. There is a relationship between expiratory carbon monoxide levels with smoking status of smokers and nonsmokers. Significant increase in carbon monoxide levels in smokers.
