Abstract

Business can be judged by various ways and one of them is based on how leadership styles apply in the company, which is suggested to have an impact on employees’ performance. Numerous cases can be seen in the society where leaders are behaving terribly towards employees. Questions are being provoked regarding whether or not democratic leadership style influences employees’ performance in family-owned company since according to Basit, Sebastian & Hassan (2017), democratic leadership style has the best effect on employees. The purpose of this quantitative research is to discover whether or not democratic leadership style has an influence on employees’ performance at CV. Putra Pantai Jaya Marelan. To obtain the data needed for this research, convenience sampling method is being conducted and questionnaires using five-option Likert scale are spread out to employees of the company. After collecting the data, using descriptive research design, the methods that are used were descriptive analysis, test of validity, test of reliability, test of coefficient correlation (scoring 0,536), test of coefficient determination (28,8% employees’ performance is influenced by democratic leadership style) and z-test for hypothesis testing. The result of the z-test (3,514) indicates that alternate hypothesis is accepted because the z-score is greater than z table value (1,96). According to the tests that have been conducted in the research, it reveals that democratic leadership style has an influence on employees’ performance in family business at CV. Putra Pantai Jaya. Moreover, democracy leadership style are endearing towards employees. It can be seen based on how satisfied the employees are in working in the company.
