Abstract

Mahasiswa diharapkan untuk dapat mengembangkan kelekatan interpersonalnya dengan baik, juga mengembangkan kecerdasan emosionalnya untuk menghindari munculnya perilaku Alexithymia / Alexithymia is a condition which one is difficult to describe or feeling one’s own emotion. A different attachment style that one developed from early childhood can determine one’s interpersonal behavior in the future. Emotional intelligence is the ability of how one can regulate emotions and take control of one self. This research aims to know the effect of attachment (depend, anxiety, and close) and emotional intelligence towards alexithymia behavior of university students in Manado. This research took samples by using purposive sampling technique and giving out questionnaires through google form to 103 university students in Manado. This research analyzed data by using simple linear regression and multiple regression to test the three hypothesis of this research. The result of the first hypothesis shows that depend can predict Alexithymia behavior for 22.8% (p = 0.000), anxiety can predict Alexithymia behavior for 21.5% (p = 0.000), and close can predict Alexithymia behavior for 17.1% (p = 0.000). The second hypothesis of this research revealed that emotional intelligence can predict Alexithymia behavior for 17.1% (p = 0.000). And the result of the third hypothesis revealed that close and emotional intelligence can predict Alexithymia behavior simultaneously, but depend and anxiety are strong predictors of Alexithymia behavior with the percentage of 32.3% (p = 0.000). There are other factors affecting Alexithymia behavior of the university students in Manado. Students are wished to develop a good attachment of interpersonal relation and emotional intelligence to avoid the emergence of Alexithymia behavior.
