Abstract

Indonesia berada di urutan pertama menurut WHO sebagai negara dengan prevalensi perokok berusia diatas 15 tahun terbanyak dengan persentase 76,2%. Kanker, penyakit kardiovaskuler, dan penyakit paru obstruktif kronis (PPOK) merupakan masalah kesehatan utama yang berkaitan erat dengan merokok. Kerusakan paru-paru karena merokok dikarakteristikan dengan inflamasi yang menyebabkan destruksi dari parenkim paru serta obstruksi jalan napas yang memperburuk parameter fungsi paru. Dua penelitian menyatakan prevalensi PEF abnormal ditemukan pada 84% perokok dan terdapat korelasi antara merokok dengan penurunan PEF. Maka dari itu, dibutuhkan penelitian untuk mengetahui apakah terdapat hubungan signifikan antara skor indeks Brinkman dengan peak expiratory flow rate (PEFR). Penelitian ini menggunakan metode studi potong lintang terhadap 48 subjek penelitian yang memenuhi kriteria penelitian dengan melakukan pemeriksaan peak flowmetry. Data diperoleh melalui analisis statistik korelasi Spearman. Dari hasil penelitian dibuktikan bahwa peningkatan skor indeks Brinkman disertai dengan penurunan nilai PEF, sehingga rokok dapat disimpulkan memiliki dampak negatif terhadap fungsi paru. / Indonesia is on the first rank as the country with the highest prevalence of smokers above 15 years old according to WHO, with a percentage of 76,2%. Cancers, cardiovascular diseases, dan chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) are the main health problems that are strongly associated to smoking. Lung damage from smoking is characterized by inflammation that causes destruction of lung parenchyma and airway obstruction that worsens lung function parameters. Two studies stated 84% abnormal PEF measurement is found in smokers and that there is a correlation between smoking and decrease in PEF value. Therefore, the research is conducted to find out whether there is a significant correlation between in cumulative dose of smoking based on the Brinkman index and peak expiratory flow rate (PEFR) value. This study utilized cross-sectional method towards 48 research subjects that fulfill the study criteria by measuring their PEF value. Data are statistically analyzed using Spearman correlation. From the study, an increase in cumulative dose of smoking based on the Brinkman index will cause a decrease in peak expiratory flow rate (PEFR) value, hence it can be concluded that smoking cause deterioration in lung function.
