Abstract

Representasi etnis Tionghoa dalam dunia perfilman Indonesia bila dibandingkan dengan masa sebelum dan sesudah reformasi mengalami perkembangan. Sesudah reformasi etnis Tionghoa digambarkan dalam konteks yang lebih luas dan peranannya lebih majemuk. Salah satunya dalam film Gie (2005), film ini merupakan film pertama sesudah reformasi yang mengangkat tema sejarah dalam perjalanan panjang perfilman Indonesia. Film ini menarik untuk diteliti karena tidak menonjolkan stereotip yang sering melekat pada etnis Tionghoa melainkan memperkenalkan sisi lain yang dimiliki oleh etnis Tionghoa. Film ini merepresentasikan etnis Tionghoa secara berbeda. Untuk mengetahui bagaimana representasi etnis Tionghoa dalam film Gie, maka penting bagi peneliti untuk memahami tanda yang dibangun dalam film tersebut baru kemudian mendeskripsikannya. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan pendekatan kualitatif serta metode yang diterapkan adalah metode analisis isi semiotika. Dengan menggunakan segitiga makna Pierce, peneliti menganalisis tanda dalam film Gie dalam tiga bagian yakni, potongan adegan sebagai representamen, adegan sebagai objek dan interpretasi akan objek sebagai interpretan. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa, etnis Tionghoa dalam film Gie direpresentasikan dalam konteks representasi biner (dua bagian). Pembagian tersebut yakni, representasi etnis Tionghoa yang tidak terpengaruh dengan stereotip dan representasi etnis Tionghoa yang terpengaruh dengan stereotip. Pembuat film berhasil menghadirkan pandangan baru kepada penonton mengenai etnis Tionghoa. Film ini secara terbuka memperkenalkan sisi lain etnis Tionghoa yang memiliki jiwa nasionalisme, berpendidikan baik, dapat berbaur dengan golongan mana saja dan yang terpenting adalah stereotip tidak lagi mendominasi peranan etnis Tionghoa dalam film ini. / Compared with before and after reformation period, representation of Chinese ethnic in Indonesian film industry had been developed. After reformation period the representation of the Chinese ethnic in Indonesian film industry portrayed in a broader context and more diverse role. One of those films is GIE (2005), GIE is the first movie that represents Chinese ethnic in a broader context and more diverse role. This film is interesting to analyze because it does not highlight the stereotypes that are often attached to the Chinese ethnic but, introducing the other part that are owned by Chinese ethnic. This film represents the Chinese ethnic differently. To find out how the representation of Chinese ethnic in this film, it is important for researcher to understand the signs that are built in the film and then describe it. This research was conducted with qualitative approach and method that has been applied is the semiotic analysis method. By using the triangle meaning by Pierce, researcher classify the signs in the film in a three different parts such as, the scenes cut as representamen, the scene as the object and the interpretation of scenes cut and scene as the interpretant. The results showed that the Chinese ethnic in GIE film, represented in binary representation (two part). The first part is representation of Chinese ethnic who are not affected by stereotypes and the second part is representations of Chinese ethnic who are affected by stereotypes. The researcher assumes that the filmmakers managed to bring new insights to the audience about the Chinese ethnic representation especially in Indonesian film. GIE introduces openly about Chinese ethnic who has a spirit of nationalism, well educated, well blend in with any kind of groups and the most important part is the stereotypical of Chinese ethnic dominate role in this film.
