Abstract

Kata Kunci: Pola makan vegetarian, status gizi, mahasiswa / Vegetarian is a type of diet that involves little or no consumption of animals and other animal products. A lot of scientific evidence shows that a vegetarian diet offers more significant advantages compared to foods containing meat and other foods obtained from animals. However, despite the health and nutritional benefits, it is not uncommon that vegetarian diet is lacking in certain nutritions. It has been reported that malnutrition is not found in elementary students who have adopted a vegetarian diet from birth to age 10 as measured by height measurements by age. However, it has not been widely reported the relationship between vegetarian diet in adults through measurement of body mass index (BMI). Objective: Knowing the relationship between vegetarian eating patterns and nutritional status among students of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Pelita Harapan. Method: The study design used a cross-sectional study with a purposive sampling technique. Diet data were obtained using the Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ) and nutritional status was obtained from the respondent's body mass index (BMI). The data obtained will be analyzed by the categorical comparative analytical method unpaired (Chi-square). Results: There is no relationship between vegetarian diet with nutritional status in students of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Pelita Harapan (p = 0.27). A total of 25 vegetarian samples (73,5%) had normal nutritional status and 9 (26.5%) had abnormal nutritional status. Of the 9 samples, 6(66,7%) are in the underweight category and 3 (33,3%)are in the overweight category. Keywords: Vegetarian eating pattern, nutritional status, college students
