Abstract

Seiring berjalannya waktu, kondisi lingkungan hidup dunia semakin memburuk. Hal ini diakibatkan oleh aktivitas manusia yang menyebabkan kerusakan lingkungan. Saat ini, kondisi lingkungan hidup dunia sangat berbahaya dan mengancam kehidupan semua spesies di bumi. Negara - negara di dunia mulai menjadikan permasalahan lingkungan sebagai prioritas utama yang harus diselesaikan. Amerika Latin merupakan kawasan yang rentan terhadap efek dari perubahan iklim dan permasalahan lingkungan dikarenakan banyaknya aktivitas manusia yang menyebabkan deforestasi dalam kawasan Amerika Latin. Angka deforestasi yang terjadi di kawasan Amerika Latin sangat tinggi dan membahayakan komunitas global. Tingginya angka deforestasi di kawasan Amerika Latin telah menarik perhatian Organisasi Internasional, termasuk Gereja Katolik. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan tujuan untuk menganalisa kontribusi dari Gereja Katolik sebagai Organisasi Internasional dalam menanggapi permasalahan lingkungan hidup di Amerika Latin. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori Neoliberalisme sebagai landasan dasar analisis kontribusi Gereja Katolik terhadap masalah lingkungan di Amerika Latin. Kontribusi Gereja Katolik terhadap masalah lingkungan yang terjadi di Amerika Latin dinilai cukup efektif dinilai dari tanggapan yang diberikan oleh negara-negara Amerika Latin. Gereja Katolik menggunakan kekuasaan lunak mereka dalam mempromosikan perspektif Gereja Katolik terhadap masalah lingkungan global. Gereja Katolik juga mempercayai pentingnya kerjasama internasional dalam menanggapi permasalah lingkungan yang menyangkut komunitas global. Gereja Katolik melihat kurangnya tanggapan pemerintah dunia dalam menangani permasalah lingkungan dan mengajak pemerintah dunia serta institusi internasional lainnya untuk bergabung bersama dalam melindungi lingkungan hidup di dunia / Global environmental problems keep getting worse overtime. The environmental problems are getting more serious due to human activities that tend to harm the environment. In the present times, the global environmental conditions are concerning and threaten the life of all species. Environmental problems have become the top priority agenda of countries across the globe. Latin America is a region that is vulnerable to the effect of climate change and environmental problems caused by human activities that lead to deforestation within the region. The high intensity of the deforestation of the Latin America region endangered the global community. Deforestation in the Latin America region gained attention from International Organizations, including Catholic Church. The purpose of this research is to analyze the contribution made by the Catholic Church as an International Organization in responding to the global environmental problems in Latin America. This research is using Neoliberalism theory as the basis of analysis of the Catholic Church’s contribution to the environmental problems in Latin America. The contribution of the Catholic Church to the environmental problems occurred in Latin America is considered to be effective based on the response given by Latin American countries. The Catholic Church uses their soft power in promoting their perspective regarding global environmental problems. The Catholic Church also believes in the importance of international cooperation in responding to the global environmental problems. The Catholic Church also argues the lack of response from international governments in responding to the environmental problems and asking international governments including international institutions to come together to protect our environment
