Abstract

The Christchurch mass shooting has changed New Zealand's history. The shooting was the first terrorist attack to take place in New Zealand. This terrorist act resulted in 51 deaths and in which many of the victims were immigrants who settled in New Zealand. Brenton Tarrant, a 29-year-old Australian citizen, was the mastermind and perpetrator of this heinous act. The attack was an act of revenge and was based on the ideology that he adhered to, which is white supremacy. This tragedy grabbed the attention of the world. Terrorist attacks in the world have occurred frequently, however there are still many countries that do not understand how to prevent the action and spread of the idea of terrorism. The objective of this research is to describe and analyze every measure taken by the New Zealand government to manage the crisis aftermath of the terrorist attack in Christchurch and to show the global response to the actions carried out by the New Zealand government. This research will use qualitative method. The diversity in New Zealand who naturally engaged and form an identity as a multicultural country. This led the New Zealand Government took over the attention of the world because of the efficient and successful measures to combat and prevent the spread of terrorism; such as changing their gun laws, providing assistance and focus on victims, and giving shooters life prison without parole. Constructivism theory will be the basis of thinking in analyzing every action by New Zealand and the global reaction to the measures carried out by New Zealand.
