Abstract

The rapid progress, especially in the geopolitical context, has made Indonesia better prepared in various fields, especially defense. The rapid growth by China and America's power in exerting influence in the international world, along with Russia's determination and efforts to strengthen its position in the international world order, has created instability in the sphere of statehood. Learning from the past where the Indonesian government had felt defeated after receiving an embargo from America, Indonesia in this case prepared itself through defense diplomacy which in the process specifically involved the involvement of the ministry of defense as the leading actor in strengthening the country's defense in the field of defense equipment or military hardware and personnel. As one way to achieve national interests, defense diplomacy is also used as part of Indonesia's strategy in minimizing the possibility of unfavorable relations and outcomes for the government and Indonesian society in the future. This is also done to support the values that Indonesia is pursuing to become a "Global Maritime Fulcrum" as the largest archipelago country in the world with millions of potentials that need to be preserved and developed/ Kemajuan pesat khusunya dalam konteks geopolitik telah membuat Indonesia lebih bersiap-siap dalam berbagai bidang, khususnya pertahanan. Pertumbuhan yang pesat oleh China dan kekuatan Amerika dalam memberikan pengaruh di dunia internasional, serta diikuti oleh tekad dan usaha Rusia dalam memperkuat posisinya di tatanan dunia internasional, telah memberikan ketidakstablian dalam lingkup berkenegaraan. Belajar dari masa lalu di mana pemerintah Indonesia sempat merasakan kekualahan setelah menerima embargo dari Amerika, Indonesia dalam hal ini mempersiapkan dirinya melalu diplomasi ketahanan yang dalam prosesnya secara khusus melibatkan keterlibatan peran kementrian pertahanan sebagai actor terdepan dalam memperkuat ketahanan negara dalam bidang alutsista dan prajurit. Sebagai salah satu cara dalam mendapatkah kepentingan nasional, diplomasi ketahanan juga digunakan sebagai bagian dari strategi Indonesia dalam memperkecil kemungkinan untuk terjadinya hubungan dan hasil yang tidak menguntungkan bagi pemerintah dan masyarakat Indonesia kedepannya. Hal ini juga dilakukan untuk mendukung nilai yang sedang Indonesia kejar untuk menjadi “Global Maritime Fulcrum” sebagai negara kepulauan terbesar di dunia dengan jutaan potensi yang perlu dijaga dan dikembangkan.
