Abstract

The development of communication technology led to a new phenomenon of interpersonal relationship. Time and location are no longer barriers for individuals to communicate as we stay in touch and get updates of the world at the tip of the fingertips through our smartphones. With this new habits, the value of face to face communication is decreasing over time. Finding friends and partners are easier for people with the help of technology development such as internet. This research will study the form of relationship with online dating application as the medium and how young adults in Jakarta perceive the phenomenon of online dating in the society. Online dating applications such as Tinder and Paktor have become the main source for people to form relationships through online dating application. Furthermore, the findings of this research reveal the form of relationship are changing in the millennial generation. Young adults in Jakarta have differing perspectives through this online dating phenomenon. They find their partners and new circle as easy as swiping through their smartphones./ Perkembangan teknologi komunikasi menciptakan suatu fenomena baru dalam membuat suatu hubungan. Waktu dan tempat bukan merupakan suatu halangan dan batas untuk orang saling berkomunikasi satu dengan yang lainnya di jaman era teknologi sekarang ini. Semua orang menggunakan smartphone mereka untuk menjaga relasi dan mendapatkan informasi terkini tentang dunia. Dengan adanya kebiasaan baru ini, nilai hubungan tatap muka semakin menurun dari waktu ke waktu. Mencari pasangan dan teman baru merupakan suatu hal yang sangat mudah bagi semua orang sekarang dengan adanya perkembangan teknologi ini. Penelitian ini akan mempelajari tentang suatu bentuk hubungan melalui sarana aplikasi online dating. Bagaimana remaja di Jakarta saat ini memandang fenomena ini dan bagaimana mereka menanggapi di lingkungan sekitarnya. Aplikasi online dating seperti Tinder dan Paktor akan menjadi sumber utama dalam penelitian ini. Lebih lanjut, penemuan dari penelitian ini akan menunjukan bahwa bentuk suatu hubungan di generasi milenial ini sangatlah mengalami perubahan yang signifikan. Pandangan remaja di Jakarta terhadap aplikasi online dating ini sangatlah berbeda. Mereka menemukan pasangan dan teman mereka semudah menggeser smartphones mereka.
