Abstract

Indonesia has a very vast area. In spite of being separated by sea and mountain, even development of all majors must reach every single area. Even development needs infrastructure. One of it is air transportation, which is now being more interested as means of places’ connector. Aircrafts solve distance problem and make travelling time shorter. Hence, the role of airport as the connector of air and other means of transportation also becomes important. Indonesia needs to develop its airports all around the area. One of them is Hasanuddin Airport in Makassar, South Sulawesi. The project is to develop a new terminal for the airport extension. As a rational architecture, the airport terminal has to provide convenience for passengers and efficiency for the airport operations. As a facility for both domestic and international flights, the terminal becomes the gate of Eastern Indonesia. It will be the landmark of the region. Aesthetically, it also has to give an identity to this area. So the new terminal of Hasanuddin Airport extension project will combine the elements of locally traditional architecture and modern elements to serve both the region’s image and the rational functions of airport by using metaphor and transformation design methods. / Pembangunan di wilayah Indonesia yang sangat luas terus dilaksanakan di segala bidang. Pembangunan ini seharusnya juga merata sampai ke pelosok daerah. Agar pembangunan merata ini dapat berjalan baik, perlu dikembangkan infrastruktur. Salah satunya adalah transportasi udara. Dengan daya tempuh yang semakin tinggi dan waktu tempuh yang semakin singkat, jenis transportasi ini semakin diminati. Pelosok-pelosok daerah yang terpisah gunung dan lautan pun dapat dicapai asalkan ada bandara. Bandara, sebagai penghubung transportasi udara dan jenis transportasi lainnya, memegang peranan penting dalam pengembangan infrastruktur. Salah satu bandara yang terus dikembangkan yaitu Bandara Hasanuddin – Makassar melalui terminal pengembangan. Bandara merupakan suatu obyek arsitektur yang bersifat rasional. Kenyamanan penumpang dan tingkat efisiensi operasional sangat ditekankan. Karena melayani tujuan domestik dan internasional, terminal pengembangan ini juga menjadi gerbang kawasan Timur Indonesia. Oleh karena itu, aspek ‘citra’ juga tidak kalah pentingnya. Sebagai landmark (dan node) suatu kawasan bahkan negara, terminal bandara juga harus dapat menunjukkan identitasnya. Untuk itu, terminal pengembangan Bandara Hasanuddin – Makassar ini mengangkat elemen arsitektur tradisional sebagai identitas dipadukan dengan elemen modern untuk menampung fungsi-fungsi rasional, melalui salah satu pendekatan perancangan yaitu proses metafora dan transformasi.
