Abstract

Dalam dunia arsitektur, seolah – olah terdapat pilihan untuk melaksanakan desain berdasarkan keinginan atau desain yang berdasarkan kebutuhan. Perkembangan arsitektur semakin melayani baik masyarakat maupun arsitek itu sendiri untuk semakin berkreasi dalam desain, dan mewujudkan sesuatu yang pada waktu sebelumnya mungkin belum dapat tercapai. Perkembangan ini juga semakin terkait dengan dunia komersialisme, dimana arsitektur bagaikan menjadi suatu komoditi yang diperjual-belikan, dan sangat dipengaruhi oleh tren. Semakin cepat terjual semakin baik, tidak perduli apakah karya tersebut “benar” atau “tidak”. Hal ini banyak terjadi dalam pengembangan residensial dengan tema – tema khusus. Kota Wisata, Kota Bunga adalah beberapa contoh dari kecenderungan arsitektur semacam ini. Kecenderungan semacam ini adalah hasil dari sebuah gimmick, suatu cara untuk menambah daya tarik, dimana segala cara akhirnya dilakukan oleh pihak pembangun untuk mendukung komersialisme ini. Hasil dari desain ini tidak dapat dinilai secara gamblang, apakah benar atau tidak, namun dapat ditimbang berdasarkan kriteria – kriteria tertentu. Penimbangan inilah yang akan menuju pada suatu kesimpulan bahwa desain ini konteks atau tidak dengan lingkungannya. Desain yang tidak kontekstual, yang merupakan hasil dari gimmick semata akan menemui kesulitan pada nantinya, karena dapat menimbulkan problem, baik terhadap lingkungan maupun masyarakat. / In architecture world, there are somehow options to design based on imaginations and ego or based on needs and context. This development of architecture has made to create a design become more and more advantaging, some of which are beyond imagination back then. This development has a strong bond with commercialism, which architecture was shaped into a commodity that could be sell and buy, and very much dominated with trend. As long the commodity was sold as better the situation will be. They doesn’t really care the product are right or wrong. This would likely to happened in residential development with special theme. Kota Wisata, Kota Bunga are some of the examples of this kind of architectural behavior. This behavior is a result of gimmick, as a way to improving enthusiasm, where everything are likely to do to boost commercialism. This design can not be judged bluntly whether is “right” or “wrong”, but can be seen and measured based on some criteria. This judging will lead into a conclusion if the design have connection or contextual with the surroundings or not. The un-contextual design, which are results of gimmick, will be faced with difficulties as the time goes on. They, themselves, might produced problems that are caused by them, for the environment or public.
