Abstract

This project was meant to interfere one of the most important border area of Jakarta. Center of Documentation and Research of Kota Tua (Old Town of Jakarta) has the concept of giving border the role of holding together generalized areas1, by designing an integrated pedestrian and public facilities between two train stations, which planned to connect the inner and outer Jakarta. The shophouses and warehouses are turned into library and research facilities. This will form a cultural promenade as well as the green belt of the city. The essence of the building itself lies in the harmony of the structural expression which reveal the beauty of the contrast between old and new, past and present. The existing construction may be left in place as it is and some might be restored to an earlier condition or transformed into a new structure system.
