Abstract

This study aims to provide an overview of self-esteem. Besides, this study aims to determine whether there is a relationship between social support with self-esteem on the model in Jakarta. Self-esteem is the tendency of one's own eyes have the ability to overcome life's challenges and achieve happiness of life. According Tafarodi and Swann (1995), self-esteem is divided into two dimensions, namely self-competence and self-liking. Social support according to the House is as a person's perception of the potential support received from the environment, social support refers to the pleasure that the award would be perceived as caring and giving assistance in the context of intimate relationships. House divided into four dimensions of social support, ie emotional support, support award, instrumental support, and informational support. The research was conducted in North Jakarta and South Jakarta, with a quota sample in each agency. Data is processed using a measuring instrument social support and self-esteem by using analysis of validity and reliability. Questionnaires distributed to 100 respondents who worked as a model in the agency, and then performed a correlation analysis by Spearman Rank Order Correlation to measure the relationship between variables. From the results of the study can be proven that there is a positive relationship between social support with self-esteem (ρ = 0486). The majority of respondents have a high self-esteem. Dimensions of self-competence is a dimension in the variable self-esteem high compared to most dimensions of selfliking. Suggestions for further similar studies should use larger samples and attention to the factors that affect social support, such as educational background. As for advice for the agency to give affection, attention, faith in the model of selfesteem so that they can be improved. For models that have a low self-esteem in order to improve self-esteem by establishing good relationships with other individuals in order to place the support. Also, it can be trained in order to create a high self-esteem.
