Abstract
Fire fighters’ job is highly risky. Most of the times they have to risk their lives to save the victims. There might be many reasons for them to take such a risky job. One among the reasons is high level of altruistic attitude and religious orientation. Religious orientation is the way people carry their religion. People with intrinsic religious orientation find their master motive in religion, while those with extrinsic religious orientation use their religion to satisfy their personal needs. On other hand altruistic behavior, is a positive behavior towards others where people are willing to sacrifice whatever they have in order to help others. This study is aimed at the possibility of correlation between religiosity and altruistic behavior in the experience of fire fighters, specifically the Fire fighter Brigade from Tangerang District. There are 108 firefighters participating in this study. Religiousity was measured using religious orientation questionnaire and altruistic behavior was measured using questionnaire as well, both developed by the researcher herself. The collected data were analyzed using Pearson Product Moment Correlation to see if there is connection between two variables. The results showed that intrinsic religious orientation significantly correlated with prososical behavior (r=.400**’ p<0.06), while extrinsic religious orientation did not have a correlation with prosocial behavior (r=.147;p>0.05).
