Abstract

This project focused on enhancement in courses and users administration of LMS MOODLE as e-learning system. After five years implementation, elearning system was still considered as additional facility to university learning system instead of as unified part of the learning system. Data shows many departments are not using e-learning system at all. Teachers said that e-learning administration was burdening. Series of enhancements was proposed in this roadmap to deal with some major issues of e-learning system: interactive multimedia support, security issues, single sign-on, integration to academic process, and interconnectivity with academic information system. Thus, seamless operations, through integration and interconnectivity, are going to lessen the usage burden of teachers and students. This project comprised analysis and design of model of integration LMS MOODLE and academic information system in courses and users. The requirements were gathered through interviews. Phased development was used as the method to develop the integration model. A testbed system had been developed to demonstrate the model on pre-implementation stage. This model elaborated integration model and interconnectivity architecture. The roadmap proposed upgrade to MOODLE 1.9.x due to more secure and SCORM support than current 1.8.3. The model showed MOODLE administration processes (single sign-on, course management, and enrollment) can be automatically done by integrating them into academic processes: new student additional facility, open course, and add/drop course. The interconnectivity architecture described data communication between MOODLE and academic information system handling integration processes. Lastly, the roadmap described deployment stages of these enhancements.
