Abstract

The concept of green building emerges due to public awareness of sustainability of the earth from further damage caused by global warming. Building and construction industry are two of the largest contributors to global warming and other forms of environmental damage. Based on this, Green Building Council Indonesia was established. Green Building Council Indonesia is an independent institution and nonprofit which organizes familiarization activities using principles of green / ecological / sustainability in the planning, implementation and operation of buildings and environment in Indonesia. GBC Indonesia uses a rating system as a standard for green building grading called GREENSHIP. This study discusses the application of GREENSHIP green building standard in order to learn about the compatibility of the standard application. In this case particularly for building designed by architecture consultant in Jakarta. The data collection is conducted by literature study about ideologies, concepts, terminologies and methods of green building and other things that can support this study. There is case study of a house called Studio-O Cahaya in Jakarta. The house was analyzed using GREENSHIP green building standard. There are also study of commercial building and the relation with green building principle. From this case studies, we can see the significance of GREENSHIP green building standard for building in Jakarta. From the study, we see that GREENSHIP green building standard still needs to be developed and improved because it is not specific. There has to be a specific green building standard to assess a specific type of building because every types of building have their own unique characteristic and needs. With a specific green building standard, building assessment can be held more accurately.
