Abstract

The main problem most of the cities have, is the increasing number of population due to urbanization. Population growth in the city is not in line with residential development. This is the result of a limited vacant land. Flats is a solution for urban residential land where empty lands are limited and improving by structuring the city for the development of the region. Villagers who move to cities are lacking in terms of social interaction. Villagers normally interacts in outdoor places with a habit of "roughing" and have conversation with others or being socially active within their environment while sitting on the floor. These behavior is ingrained within them and so it is done in the city too. As a result, the residential areas looked vile, because of it’s not wellorganized communal spaces in the settlement. The problem in a flat is the lack of social interaction aspects of society. The habits of those villagers who interact in the front yard of their houses will not be seen in flats. Residents of flats will utilize spaces that allow them for social interaction, for example, corridors and stairs. This makes the pattern of a communal space in flats not well organized. In this last written task, the method that will be used is to make a site analysis, observing citizens’ activities, and read books that is related to flats and communal spaces. One of the precedents that be will uses in this thesis is The Interlace, Singapore. In The Interlace, there are communal space that serves to facilitate social interaction in habitants. Through this last written task, I have conclude that apartements are the best solution for civilants whose lands are small such as district in Neglasari. Appyling communal space in appartements would help in the social activities of society in distric Neglasari. Communal space is adapted within their daily activities and based on the theory which has existed.
