Abstract

Treatment in hospital or hospitalization is an unpleasant process that could pressure patients mentally and even psychologically, including pediatrics patients. One of the factors that contribute to the slow process of hospitalization is the design of the hospital itself that has lack support on healing process. To overcome that process, there is one activity that could reduce the negative impact of hospitalization that is through playing. This research will be used to answer further how playing can be integrated in a hospital environment particularly in children’s hospital to reduce the stress on children patients. Based on the literature and precedent study, there are several ways to reduce the negative impacts of hospitalization. The first one is with the play of colors on public and treatment area. The second one is accessible gardens and openings that allow sunlight to enter and could be viewed from rooms inside hospital. The third one is to design installations or playing area for children. In conclusion, negative impacts from hospitalization must be reduces. To conquer them, well treated environment is the main way to process the hospitalization. It is by integrating playing environment to a children’s hospital such as by using bright colors in public area and soft colors in treatment rooms. Outdoor gardens in public area, outpatient area, and inpatient area that are oriented to the morning sun. Varieties of playing rooms that are adjusted to the users.
