Abstract
Alzheimer's disease in Indonesia is still considered trivial by people in Indonesia because they thought that this condition commonly occured to elderly. Actually, Alzheimer is a serious disease that is characterized by senile with behavioral disorders. Until now Alzheimer a non-curable disease, but still can be treated to avoid getting worse. Special nurses/caregivers and specific environment designed are needed to support Alzheimer people. Currently, there is no special treatment facility for them in Indonesia, while overseas has been a lot of places like this. It is because the awareness about the importance of this place to maintain their quality of life. Data was collected through literature studies, and empirical studies. Literature study conducted by collecting data from books, journals, and the Internet. While empirical studies conducted by survey to Alzheimer’s residential living, for further investigation of their behavior. Interview with Alzheimer's Foundation of Indonesia was conducted to find out how high the Jakarta awareness about this disease, and the amount of Alzheimer’s care in Jakarta. From the research, there are some criteria in designing buildings for Alzhimer people that respond to their limitations and disorders. Beside that, therapeutic design has a role in raising their quality of life and support their relationship and interaction with the caregivers.
