Abstract

Nowdays, the topic of old building restoration start to gain public and government attention. This happens because Indonesian people especially in Jakarta, are being ignorant to their identity. Conservating the history can be done by conservation and restoration of old buildings. One way of conserving the old buildings is by using Adaptive Reuse strategy. Adaptive Reuse can be define as reusing old buildings or penetrate a different function for the building, different from its original function. When a new function is penetrated into an old building, there is a question whether the building is suitable for the new function or not. The decision making for the function is crucial because it will affect the building itself and the user. Deciding the function will also affect the old and new structure integration. Tanjung Priuk railway station is the building used in this research. This building is chosen based on several reasons. First, this building has architectural value that is represented in the art deco style, there is also potential of the space as the result of wide-span structure. Secondly, although the building still functioning fully, the building is not a very good condition. Thirdly, this building has a storng historical value in Jakarta. After analyzing the site and study the options precedent then used functions for the train station of Tanjung Priok in this study is a museum exhibiting the history of the port of Tanjung Priok , Jakarta , and trains as well as its relationship to the development of ports in particular and the city in general . After going through the design process , the conclusion of the study in the case of Tanjung Priok train station is the use of Adaptive Reuse strategies are suitable to be applied into the railway station building Tanjung Priok not just one strategy . These strategies are insertion strategy , wraping , and parasites
