Abstract

The author will discuss the study of the physical and non-physical element in the formation of the quality of road space in Chinatown Glodok area. Diversity of functions and activities lead to many physical and non-physical elements. Moreover, Chinatown Glodok area has its own appeal that can attract many regional activities. As elements forming into judgments about the quality of the road space is managed without losing the identity of this region. To get the physical and non-physical element , first of all need to understand the elements that the forming region and the theory of the quality of road space. Besides the quality of the road space is taken from Project for Public space to determine the elements that can affect the quality of road space. After understanding the theory can be described physical and non-physical element in the formation of the quality of road space. This can be seen with the physical and non-physical elements of what most affects the quality of road space. Based on these results it can be concluded that the physical and nonphysical elements complement each other in shaping the quality of roads without reducing or eliminating the regional identity as Chinatown. There are several physical elements that have a relation to the non-physical elements . Based on research , non-physical elements has a more important role than the non-physical elements because non-physical element shows the specific conditions of Chinatown Glodok area . In addition to the role of physical and non-physical elements , presence of street vendors also become one of the important role in improving the quality of road space , although physically able to disrupt and reduce the quality of roads in Chinatown Glodok area.
