Abstract

United States Bilateral Relations with Indonesia has existed since the beginning of the administration of President Sukarno to President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and there are a lot of dynamics in it. Bilateral relations of both countries starting to reach the highest point when the United States began to implement its pivot to Asia, and Indonesia became one of the key for United States national interests. Foreign policy of the United States had occurred due to the various factors and one of them is to stem the Rise of China in Asia. In addition, Pivot itself also affects Bilateral Relations between United States and Indonesia in a various aspects such as economy, military, political, education, and so on. There are two purposes of the research, the first one is to analyze and identify how big is the impact of United States pivot strategy towards the bilateral relations between United States and Indonesia under President Barack Obama’s administration, second, is to analyze and identify if this United States pivot strategy will affects the stability and security also the Indonesian Government as a whole. In conducting this research, the authors used qualitative research methods and literature studies on an official documents from the official website of the governments, analyzing and studying books and journals related to the discussion of this research and learn how Indonesian society respond to the United States pivot strategy. From data and writer’s analysis, it can be concluded that the United States pivot strategy has become a bridge for United States to start its national interest in every states that they called it as emerging power including Indonesia. The main theory that became the benchmark for this study is Neorealism. The author tries to use Neorealism in order to understand, explain and analyze the topics. From these results of this research, the authors can analyze and explore the topics on Bilateral Relations of United States and Indonesia, as well as the US pivot strategy that could affect bilateral relations between the two countries.
