Abstract

In today’s information era, mass media play an important role in information sharing. Therefore numerous companies have started to realize the importance of media relations in maintaining their image and reputation, and also to communicate with the public. Related with the author’s internship at PT. Mogems Putri International, the author found out that an event is a significant part in media relations activities. For the success of an event, the steps described by Shone and Perry (2004, 81) are needed. The author concludes that the most effective media relations activity to reach the public is holding by a special event, which has a purpose to deliver a message of a company to its public. The event is held by applying the steps of event management, according to Shone and Perry. For those steps, the author discovered that an objective is very important to determine the concept of the event, followed by with drafting a plan to do an advanced research before holding the event. While systematic detailed planning is needed to build a team with different tasks and responsibilities for the event, reflection is another thing needed to a confirm all the things related with the event. Next is the execution of the event itself and finally, evaluation of the event.
