Abstract

Social media has an its implications for the democratization of information, because anyone who owns the account can be a prosumer (producer and consumer) in creating messages, however the low control mechanisms are still causing the content in social media is not only positive, but also negative, such as spreading hate speech. Hate speech also coloring the social media account of journalists in Banten, especially during the Banten election campaign of Governor in 2017. This research was conducted by qualitative research method through phenomenology research approach. By using Social Construction Theory as a framing of qualitative analysis, it was revealed that the expression of hatred through social media up as a journalist who interpreted himself as a Banten’s agent of change who do not want Banten led by the wrong leader. Then the journalist interpreted his profession as a news carrier who knows the facts that happen in the field, and media industry as a propaganda machine to spread hate speech among the people of Banten. / Media sosial berimplikasi dalam hal demokratisasi informasi, karena siapapun pemilik akun dapat menjadi prosumer (producer and consumer) dalam menciptakan pesan, namun mekanisme kontrol yang masih minim banyak menyebabkan konten di media sosial tidak hanya bernada positif, namun juga dapat bernada negatif seperti penyebaran ujaran kebencian atau hate speech. Hate speech juga mewarnai akun Facebook wartawan di Banten, terutama pada saat kampanye Pemilihan Gubernur Banten 2017. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan metode penelitian kualitatif melalui pendekatan penelitian fenomenologi. Dengan menggunakan Teori Konstruksi Sosial sebagai pembingkai analisis kualitatif, terungkap bahwa pengujar kebencian melalui media sosial Facebook yang berprofesi sebagai wartawan memaknai dirinya sebagai agen perubahan Banten yang tidak ingin Banten dipimpin oleh pemimpin yang salah. Kemudian wartawan tersebut memaknai profesinya sebagai pembawa berita yang mengetahui benar fakta yang terjadi di lapangan, serta industri medianya sebagai mesin propaganda untuk menyebarkan ujaran kebencian di kalangan warga Banten.
