Abstract

Indonesia became one of the countries with complex environmental problems. One of which that brought international attention is forest and land fires as the cause of haze that happens almost every year in Indonesia. This study captures the phenomenon that forest and land fires occurring in Indonesia have been reported by the Indonesian and Singaporean newspapers differently according to their respective editorial policies, both regarding the frequencies, placement positions and the size of news coverage. For this reason, this research is conducted to describe the proportion of news coverage related to forest and land fires in Indonesia in Indonesian and Singapore newspapers based on the frequencies, placement positions and the size of news coverage in accordance to objectivity criteria, and to describe the proportion of news topics related to forest and land fires in Indonesia in Indonesian and Singapore newspapers based on the frequencies, placement positions and the size of news coverage. This research uses quantitative approach with content analysis research method. The research data was collected from the result of coding data and interview, as well as literature study. Interviews were conducted to two resources from media editorial representative and Indonesian Ministry of Environment and Forestry. The result shows that there is a difference in the proportion of news coverage related to forest and land fires in Indonesia in Indonesian and Singaporean newspaper based on the frequencies, placement positions and the size of news coverage in accordance to objectivity criteria, and there is no significant difference in the significant proportion of news coverage related to forest and land fires in Indonesian and Singaporean mass media the frequencies, placement positions and the size of news coverage. / Indonesia menjadi salah satu negara dengan permasalahan terkait lingkungan yang cukup kompleks. Salah satunya yang menjadi perhatian dunia internasional adalah kebakaran hutan dan lahan sebagai penyebab kabut asap yang terjadi hampir setiap tahun di Indonesia. Penelitian ini menangkap gejala bahwa kebakaran hutan dan lahan yang terjadi di Indonesia telah diberitakan oleh media massa Indonesia dan Singapura secara berbeda-beda sesuai dengan kebijakan redaksi masing-masing, baik terkait frekuensi, penempatan posisi maupun ukuran luas bidang pemberitaan. Atas dasar alasan tersebut maka, penelitian ini dilakukan yaitu untuk mendeskripsikan proporsi pemuatan pemberitaan terkait kebakaran hutan dan lahan di Indonesia dalam surat kabar Indonesia dan Singapura berdasarkan frekuensi, posisi penempatan dan luas bidang berita sesuai kriteria objektivitas, dan mendeskripsikan proporsi pemuatan topik pemberitaan berdasarkan frekuensi, posisi penempatan dan luas bidang berita terkait kebakaran hutan dan lahan di Indonesia dalam surat kabar Indonesia dan Singapura. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan metode penelitian analisis isi. Sumber data penelitian berasal dari hasil data coding dan wawancara, serta studi kepustakaan. Wawancara dilakukan kepada dua narasumber, yaitu perwakilan redaksi surat kabar dan Kementerian Lingkungan Hidup dan Kehutanan Republik Indonesia. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan proporsi pemuatan pemberitaan berdasarkan frekuensi, posisi penempatan dan luas bidang berita terkait kebakaran hutan dan lahan di Indonesia dalam surat kabar Indonesia dan Singapura sesuai kriteria objektivitas, dan tidak terdapat perbedaan proporsi pemuatan topik pemberitaan yang signifikan berdasarkan frekuensi, posisi penempatan dan luas bidang berita terkait kebakaran hutan dan lahan di Indonesia antara surat kabar Indonesia dan Singapura.
