Abstract

In the era of modernization and post-industrial society, the study of ageism focuses more on discrimination against the elderly because it assumes today’s society prefers young people than the old people. However, I found that in this era where the society prefers young people, at the same time, ageism against the young people occurs. Media is one of the parties which play a role in spreading and establishing discrimination against adolescents. Therefore, research is needed to analyze critically the popular media of teenagers. In this study, I will analyze critically the popular teen movie “Dilan 1990” to see how the ideology of ageism distributed through that film. To do this research, I use critical paradigm with qualitative approach and I use critical discourse analysis of Teun A. Van Dijk as method of analysis. In this research I use primary data, which is verbal data from inverviews and mediated data from the primary literature of the concepts, theories, and research method in this research. Besides that, I use secondary resources in the form of mediated data from the documents and visual data which related with this research topic. The results showed that there is ageism against the adolescents in “Dilan 1990” movie. Furthermore, there is also attempts to build false consciousness in the life of young people, which relate to romantic and violence. / Dalam era modernisasi dan masyarakat pasca-industri, kajian ageism lebih fokus kepada diskriminasi terhadap orang tua karena menganggap masyarakat pada masa sekarang lebih mengutamakan anak muda. Peneliti mendapati bahwa dalam masyarakat yang telihat mengutamakan anak muda, di saat yang bersamaan juga terjadi ageism kepada kaum muda. Media adalah salah satu pihak yang ikut berperan dalam menyebarkan dan memapankan diskriminasi terhadap kaum muda. Oleh karena itu, diperlukan penelitian untuk menganalisa secara kritis media populer remaja. Dalam penelitian ini penulis akan fokus menganalisa secara kritis film populer remaja “Dilan 1990”, untuk melihat bagaimana ideologi ageism disebarkan lewat film tersebut. Penelitian ini menggunakan paradigma kritis dengan pendekatan kualitatif dan metode analisisnya adalah analisis wacana kritis dari Teun A. Van Dijk. Datadata yang didapat berupa data primer yang merupakan data verbal dari wawancara terhadap key informant dan informan, serta mediated data dari dokumen pustaka yang ditulis langsung oleh penggagas konsep, teori, dan metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini. Selain itu, terdapat data sekunder berupa mediated data berbentuk dokumen maupun visual yang berkaitan dengan penelitian ini. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa dalam film “Dilan 1990” terdapat ideologi ageism kepada kaum muda. Selain itu, di dalam film juga terdapat upaya memapankan ageism dengan usaha membentuk kesadaran palsu dalam diri remaja, dalam kaitan dengan hal asmara dan kekerasan dalam hidup remaja.
