Abstract
Salt is one of the most important commodities in the nation. The nationwide demand for salt was 4.4 milion tons in 2020. However, the amount of salt produced in 2020 within our country didn’t meet the amount of salt needed to satisfy the people’s demand causing the government to import 2.9 milion tons of salt to meet the deficit. Nonetheless, the practice of illegal activities within the importing of salt industry happens regularly. On the 22nd July of 2020, The Minister of Trade found and destroy 2.5 tons of illegal himalayan salt that came from Pakistan distributed in the country. With the use of normative legal research, the writer found two criminal offenses that were committed by the act of distributing the illegal himalayan salt. First, the salt was imported into the country without the importing good permit that is omitted by the Ministry of Trade for every legal good that is imported to the country. Second, the himalayan salt that was distributed was sold on retail stores without passing the Indonesian National Standard certification for all edible goods in Indonesia and the required distribution license. With the issues mentioned above, this essay will be analyzing the legal protection for consumers on imports and distribution of consumables himalayan salt that violates the Indonesian laws for importing and distribution.
