Abstract

Global Positioning System (GPS) is one of a feature that we can get at our handsets, with this feature the user can get the current position on the digital map. This research will focus on comparing the accuracy of the 4 GPS mobiles that consist of 2 Android phones and 2 Blackberry phones to GPS Garmin as the reference value. We also try to find the influence of other factors such as time, position, orientation of cell phones and weather to the accuracy of our GPS mobiles. This research also develops a mobile GPS application to record GPS coordinate using web browser. The results of this research clearly shows that the mobile GPS A is better than mobile GPS B, because after we measured the distance differences between Garmin GPS and mobile GPS A or mobile GPS B , we got 3,6 m different for GPS A and 6.8 m for GPS B. From analysis of data, the place that we obtain the data is also affecting the accuracy of GPS, if the GPS signal travel through a building or tree obstacles, the signal would get reflected and it will cause the multipath effect that will increase the free-space loss in the transmission process. In addition, GPS data collection timing should not be when mid-day, because during that time when the ionosphere delay tends to increase, due to the sun activity on high value. The best time to obtain the GPS coordinate is around 6 pm, at that time the GPS accuracy around 2.7 m.Weather also quite affects to the accuracy of GPS. GPS measurements are best done on a sunny day, because on cloudy or rainy weather there is high humidity values, which is one component of a wet delay in the troposphere delay. / Global Positioning System (GPS) merupakan fitur yang mudah kita dapatkan melalui telepon selular sekarang ini, dengan fitur ini pengguna dapat mengetahui posisi terkini di dalam peta digital. Penelitian ini akan difokuskan untuk membandingan akurasi 4 buah telepon selular dari tipe Android tertentu dan tipe Blackberry tertentu jika dibandingkan dengan GPS Garmin sebagai referensinya. Serta melihat pengaruh akurasi dari 4 telepon selular tersebut terhadap faktor-faktor lain seperti waktu, posisi, orientasi telepon selular dan cuaca. Penelitian ini juga membangun sebuah aplikasi mobile GPS yang dapat digunakan untuk merekam koordinat GPS melalui web browser. Dari penelitian ini diketahui bahwa telepon genggam tipe A tampak lebih akurat dibandingkan tipe B, karena dari nilai rata-rata perbedaan jarak dari koordinat Garmin, untuk tipe A sekitar 3,6 m sedangkan tipe B mempunyai nilai rata-rata perbedaan jarak 6,8 m. Dan dari analisis data, tempat pengambilan data cukup mempengaruhi akurasi GPS, karena tempat yang memiliki halangan seperti gedung atau pohon mengalami efek multipath, sehingga sinyal terpantul dan meningkatkan free-space loss dalam proses transmisinya. Selain itu, untuk waktu pengambilan GPS yang terbaik adalah setelah akitifitas matahari menurun, yaitu terjadi pada pukul 6 sore, karena data rata-rata perbedaan jarak yang diperoleh pada pukul 6 sore adalah 2,7 m. Cuaca juga cukup berpengaruh terhadap akurasi GPS. Pengukuran GPS yang terbaik dilakukan pada cuaca cerah, karena pada cuaca mendung atau hujan terdapat nilai kelembaban yang tinggi, dimana ini merupakan salah satu komponen dalam bias troposfer.
