Abstract

Social media present as one of the new means of communication in the life of society. So many benefits can be obtained by using social media as a medium of communication. Many areas in our daily lives that have used social media as a means of communicating, one of them is the field of politics. The use of social media in the field of politics serve as a medium for represent image of themselves to a wide audience without any limitations of space, distance and time. Seen in an effort made by Jakarta Governor Candidates ahead of election in using social media Instagram as their media represent personal image to public. This research uses qualitative approach with semiotic method. The data is obtained directly through Instagram social media owned by the Governor Candidates by analyzing each upload included into their respective social media accounts. The results of this study indicate that Social media Instagram has been used by Jakarta Governor Candidates as their media to represent the personal image they have to the public at the time of the general election. The self-image representation performed by each Governor Candidate is different from each other, and there are also similarities in it. / Media sosial hadir sebagai salah satu sarana komunikasi yang baru didalam kehidupan masyarakat. Begitu banyak manfaat yang bisa diperoleh dengan menggunakan media sosial sebagai media komunikasi. Banyak bidang dalam keseharian kita yang sudah menggunakan media sosial sebagai sarana mereka dalam berkomunikasi, salah satunya adalah bidang politik. Penggunaan media sosial dalam bidang politik dijadikan sebagai media untuk mrepresentasikan citra diri mereka kepada khalayak luas tanpa ada batasan ruang, jarak dan waktu. Terlihat dalam upaya yang dilakukan oleh para Calon Gubernur DKI Jakarta menjelang pilikada dalam menggunakan media sosial Instagram sebagai media mereka merepresentasikan citra diri ke publik. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode semiotika. Data diperoleh secara langsung melalui media sosial Instagram milik para Calon Gubernur dengan menganalisis setiap unggahan yang dimasukkan kedalam akun media sosial mereka masing-masing. Hasil dalam penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa media sosial Instagram telah digunakan oleh para Calon Gubernur DKI Jakarta sebagai media mereka untuk merepresentasikan citra diri yang mereka miliki kepada publik pada saat menjelang pemilihan umum. Representasi citra diri yang dilakukan oleh setiap Calon Gubernur berbeda satu dengan yang lainnya, dan ada juga yang memiliki kesamaan didalamnya.
