Abstract

Technological advance and development is a challenge for conventional media such as magazine, therefore major change and transformation to digital media in the form of convergence is imperative. Media convergence has been recognized by the conventional media for the sake of extension and broadness regarding the general audience. Media convergence is an ongoing process that should not be viewed as a displacement of the old media, but rather as interaction between different media forms and platforms (Jenkins, 2006). The conventional media will work with pictures, videos and prints when performing convergence. This research’s purpose is to desribe the course of technological applications, cultural and substance of how Harper’s Bazzar Indonesia expands the information to the audience. In-depth interview and observation was chosen as the qualitative method to collect the essential data for the research. The sources are those who work within the Harper’s Bazzar Indonesia’s administration. The result concluded that there are concepts of multichannel, multitasking, and multicontent when Harper’s Bazzar Indonesia conducts expansion through convergence. / Perkembangan teknologi merupakan sebuah tantangan bagi media konvensional untuk melakukan perubahan dalam inovasi baru ke media digital dengan bentuk konvergensi. Konvergensi media telah diakui oleh media konvensional dalam mengembangkan informasi secara lebih luas kepada audiens. Menurut Jerkin (2006), konvergensi media adalah isu yang tidak boleh dianggap sebagai perpindahan media lama, melainkan interaksi antara berbagai bentuk platform media. Industri media konvensional akan berkaitan dengan gambar, video dan tulisan ketika melakukan konvergensi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menggambarkan proses teknologi, proses budaya dan proses konten majalah Harper’s Bazaar Indonesia dalam memperluas informasi kepada audiens. Metode penelitian kualitatif dilakukan dengan cara wawancara mendalam dan observasi untuk mengambi data. informan adalah pekerja dalam struktur organisasi di majalah Harper’s Bazaar Indonesia. Hasil penelitian menemukan adanya konsep multichannel, multitasking dan multicontent ketika Harper’s Bazaar Indonesia melakukan perluasan ke arah konvergensi.
