Abstract
This fieldwork report is written based on the project of improving network being implemented in computer laboratory of UPH, Jakarta. The method deployed to achieve such improvement is the latest sophisticated LAN technology called VLAN. VLAN which stands for Virtual Local Area Network is a new network technology that perfectly separates LANs based on their own purpose. This method uses a switching device that supports VLAN setting and a routing device that will help each VLAN to connect each other. This report discusses thoroughly on the method being implemented in the laboratory’s current system, identifies the main problem of the system, and proposes a solution to that problem. As conclusion, the new method, VLAN, has given a massive improvement to the network. Here, important points obtained from the field are presented to indicate whether the problem is well defined and already solved to a certain level of satisfaction or not.
