Abstract

Currently the world of fashion continues to develop in line with the rapid advancement of the world and technology. Fashion is increasingly becoming a profitable industry in the international world as a result of the emergence of world famous fashion houses and fashion magazines. There is a problem in the world of fashion, namely fast fashion. Fast fashion began to develop in the 1990s, when the apparel industry players were required to make huge profits in a short time, because big chain stores began to join in the competition by producing their own cheap clothes whose models always follow the latest fashion trends. The focus of fast fashion is how to produce goods at the lowest possible cost but able to respond to rapidly changing consumer demands; assuming that consumers want clothes with the latest fashions at affordable prices. The author will examine the role of the International Labor Organization (ILO) in overcoming the problem of unfair labor wages and worker safety in the fast fashion industry. This type of research used by the author in this study is to use normative legal research aimed at testing the quality of legal norms themselves. The role of the ILO is to issue conventions namely the Equal Wages Convention, the Minimum Wage Fixing Convention 1970 (Convention Number 131) and the Occupational Safety and Health Convention, 1981 (No.155). In addition, the ILO also launched 2 (two) programs to assist in the provision of appropriate wages to work in the garment industry, namely Better Work and the Global Framework Agreements (GFA).
