Abstract

n Indonesia, Mandarin lesson is not only increasingly popular but also has become part of the school curriculum. At Sekolah Pelita Harapan Pluit Village, Mandarin lesson is taught from Kindergarten level with the purpose that students are able to know the basic of Mandarin skills such as visual literacy and phonological sensitivity. In order to improve both of these skills, a research focusing on visual teaching was needed so that students could be facilitated in learning Mandarin characters which seemed to be complicated and difficult. Visual teaching would also be supported by many instruments and visual activities which can stimulate their senses during the learning process. To collect the data, the researcher conducted a Class Action Research (CAR) on 13 students of K3A class. The data was collected through notes taking on the observation sheet, worksheet assessment and student interviews. Then, the data result was analyzed again by calculating the average of class assessment score. For gaining the desired target result, the researcher tested it in three research cycles. The analysis result proved that visual teaching influences the development of visual literacy and phonological sensitivity of K3A students because this method provided an opportunity for children to interact actively and experience the learning process directly and pleasantly through many visual media. For this reason, the researcher recommends the application of visual teaching, focusing on Mandarin pictograph characters lesson for Kindergarten students. / Pembelajaran bahasa Mandarin di Indonesia tidak hanya semakin diminati bahkan sudah menjadi bagian dari kurikulum sekolah. Pembelajaran bahasa Mandarin di Sekolah Pelita Harapan Pluit Village sudah mulai diterapkan di tingkat TK-B dengan harapan siswa bisa memiliki keterampilan dasar dalam berbahasa Mandarin seperti literasi visual dan kepekaan fonologi. Untuk meningkatkan kedua keterampilan ini maka diperlukan penelitian berkaitan dengan pengajaran visual dalam memudahkan siswa dalam mempelajari karakter Mandarin yang terkesan rumit dan sulit. Pengajaran visual ini juga akan ditunjang dengan banyak instrumen dan aktivitas visual yang merangsang panca indra anak dalam proses pembelajaran. Untuk memperoleh data yang diharapkan peneliti melakukan penelitian tindakan kelas terhadap siswa K3A yang berjumlah 13 orang. Data akan dikumpulkan melalui membuat catatan pada lembar observasi dan menilai lembar kerja siswa dan wawancara siswa. Nilai-nilai yang diperoleh akan dianalisa kembali dengan menghitung rata-rata kelas. Agar data yang diperoleh bisa lebih akurat, maka peneliti akan mengujinya dalam tiga siklus penelitian. Hasil analisa membuktikan bahwa pengajaran visual dapat mempengaruhi perkembangan literasi visual dan kepekaan fonologi siswa K3A karena metode ini memberikan kesempatan pada anak untuk berinteraksi aktif dan mengalami proses pembelajaran secara langsung dan menyenangkan melalui banyak media visual. Untuk itu, peneliti merekomendasikan penerapan pengajaran visual kedalam pembelajaran karakter Mandarin piktograf untuk anak-anak TK-B.
