Abstract

Background: The death rate is one indicator of the performance appraisal result of a health service process. Deaths in the inpatient room are inevitable for some patients with acute and chronic illness. Increased rates of patients transfer to intensive care unit and mortality rates in hospitals require an early detection score system or early warning to detect a worsening of the patient's condition by applying the Early Warning Score which is a systematic approach that uses scores to identify changes inpatient condition and determine the intervention that should be done. Purpose: To review the impact of Early Warning Score usage on patient transfer rate in intensive care unit and prevent death occurrence. Methods: This study based on Literature Review using the database like EBSCO, PubMed, JSTOR and Spring Link, analyzed thematic data with a simplified approach to four articles that have been selected and passed the ethical test that conducted by Research, Community Service, and Training Committee Faculty of Nursing and Allied Health Pelita Harapan University. Result: The use of Early Warning Score has an impact on decreasing patient transfer rates in intensive care rooms and decreasing mortality rates in inpatient wards. Suggestion: Further research is needed on the level of compliance in the implementation and documentation of Early Warning Score in the hospital / Latar Belakang: Angka kematian merupakan salah satu indikator penilaian hasil kinerja dari sebuah proses pelayanan kesehatan. Kematian di ruang rawat inap merupakan hal yang tidak terelakkan untuk beberapa pasien dengan penyakit akut dan kronis. Peningkatan angka pemindahan pasien ke ruang intensive care unit dan angka kejadian kematian di rumah sakit memerlukan suatu sistem skor pendeteksian dini atau peringatan dini untuk mendeteksi adanya perburukan keadaan pasien dengan penerapan Early Warning Score yang merupakan pendekatan sistematis yang menggunakan skor untuk mengidentifikasi perubahan kondisi seseorang sekaligus menentukan langkah selanjutnya yang harus dikerjakan.Tujuan: Meninjau dampak penggunaan Early Warning Score terhadap tingkat pemindahan pasien di ruang perawatan intensif dan mencegah kejadian kematian. Metode: Penelitian berbasis literature review menggunakan database seperti EBSCO, PubMed, JSTOR dan Spring Link, melakukan analisa data tematik dengan pendekatan simplified approach terhadap empat artikel yang telah diseleksi serta telah lulus dalam uji etik yang dilakukan oleh Research, Community Service, and Training Committee Fakultas Keperawatan dan Ilmu Kesehatan Universitas Pelita Harapan. Hasil: Penggunaan Early Warning Score memiliki dampak terhadap penurunan tingkat pemindahan pasien di ruang perawatan intensif dan penurunan tingkat kejadian kematian di ruang rawat inap. Saran: Diperlukan penelitian selanjutnya mengenai tingkat kepatuhan dalam pelaksanaan dan pendokumentasian EWS di rumah sakit.
