Abstract

Early warning score (EWS) system is a physiological scoring system (vital signs) commonly used in the surgical medical unit before the patient has worsening. EWS scoring should be accompanied by an algorithm action or clinical activation based on the scoring results of the patient assessment (Duncan & McMullan, 2012). This study used descriptive quantitative method and univariate analysis with total sampling method that is all nurses of inpatient room, amounting to 51 nurses, but only 49 people were willing to be respondent. By using a questionnaire containing true or false statements, consists of 15 questions (2 questions on EWS understanding, 6 questions on EWS implementation, 7 questions on clinical flow). By using simple data analysis, it was found that the nurses' knowledge on the implementation of EWS was good with percentage of correct answers: 40 people (100%), 6 people (93,33%), 1 person (86,66%), 2 person (80%). Despite having a good knowledge, the promotive and preventive efforts should be continued. EWS can be a tool that strengthens nurses in making clinical decisions, as well as helps in classifying priority patients / Early warning score (EWS) system adalah sebuah sistem skoring fisiologis (tandatanda vital) yang umumnya digunakan di unit medikal bedah sebelum pasien mengalami perburukan. Skoring EWS harus disertai dengan alogaritme tindakan atau aktifasi klinis berdasarkan pada hasil skoring dari pengkajian pasien. (Duncan & McMullan,2012). Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kuantitatif deskriptif dan menggunakan analisa univariat dan menggunakan metode total sampling yaitu seluruh perawat ruangan rawat inap yang berjumlah 51 perawat, tetapi yang bersedia menjadi rsponden hanya 49 orang. Dengan menggunakan kuisioner yang berisi pernyataan benar salah, terdiri dari 15 soal (2 soal mengenai pengertian EWS, 6 soal mengenai pelaksanaan EWS, 7 soal mengenai alur klinis). Dengan menggunakan analisa data sederhana didapatkan hasil bahwa gambaran pengetahuan perawat tentang pelaksanaan EWS baik dengan persentasi 40 orang (100%), 6 orang (93,33%), 1 orang (86,66%), 2 orang (80%). Walaupun memliki gambaran pengetahuan yang baik, namun usaha promotif dan prefentif sebaiknya terus dilakukan. EWS dapat menjadi alat kerja yang dapat memperkuat perawat untuk melakukan pelbagai keputusan klinis, juga untuk mempermudah untuk mengelompokan pasien mana yang mesti menjadi prioritas.
