Abstract

The demand for high speed and reliable wireless-based communications is increasing. One method to meet these needs is the use of multiple input multiple output technique (MIMO) and orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM). MIMO uses multiple antennas at the transmitter and receiver so that it can increase the bitrate and reduce error. The use of OFDM is to overcome the effects of multipath. In this final project, MIMO-OFDM system with two types of receivers, Zero Forcing (ZF) and Minimum Mean Square Error (MMSE) is simulated. The MIMO technique used in this simulation is Spatial Multiplexing. Simulation is performed using Matlab. The channel has 4 multipath taps. Simulation results are shown in BER vs Eb/No curve. The results show that increasing the number of transmit antennas will increase the data rate by a factor of the number of transmit antennas, while increasing the number of receive antennas will produce better BER curves. MMSE receiver produces better Eb/No curves than ZF. A 2x2 system with ZF receiver has BER 1.1950551x10-1 at Eb/No=8 dB. At BER=10-3, the use of eight receiver antennas (2x8) improves BER 7 dB than four receiver antennas (2x4). A 2x2 system with MMSE receiver has BER 6.911904x10-2 at Eb/No=8 dB. At BER=10-3, the use of eight receiver antennas (2x8) improves BER 6.5 dB than four receiver antennas (2x4)./ Permintaan akan komunikasi berbasis nirkabel berkecepatan tinggi serta tahan terhadap gangguan semakin meningkat. Salah satu metode untuk memenuhi kebutuhan tersebut adalah penggunaan teknik multiple input multiple output (MIMO) dan orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM). Teknik MIMO menggunakan beberapa antena pengirim maupun penerima sehingga dapat meningkatkan bitrate maupun BER. Penggunaan OFDM mampu mengatasi efek multipath. Pada tugas akhir ini dibuat simulasi sistem MIMO-OFDM dengan dua jenis penerima yaitu Zero Forcing (ZF) dan Minimum Mean Square Error (MMSE). Teknik MIMO yang digunakan yaitu Spatial Multiplexing. Simulasi dilakukan dengan menggunakan Matlab. Channel yang digunakan memiliki 4 multipath tap. Hasil simulasi sistem MIMO-OFDM ditampilkan dalam bentuk kurva BER terhadap Eb/No yang digunakan untuk menganalisis kinerja sistem MIMOOFDM. Penambahan jumlah antena pengirim meningkatkan data rate sebesar faktor jumlah antena pengirim. Penambahan jumlah antena penerima menghasilkan kurva BER yang lebih baik. Penerima MMSE menghasilkan kurva BER yang lebih baik daripada ZF. Pada penerima ZF konfigurasi dua antena pengirim dan dua antena penerima, BER saat Eb/No=8 dB sebesar 1.195055x10-1. Saat BER=10-3, penggunaan delapan antena penerima (2x8) membuat BER 7 dB lebih baik daripada sistem dengan empat antena penerima (2x4). Pada penerima MMSE konfigurasi dua antena pengirim dan dua antena penerima, BER saat Eb/No=8 dB sebesar 6.911904x10-2. Saat BER=10-3, penggunaan delapan antena penerima (2x8) membuat BER 6.5 dB lebih baik daripada sistem dengan empat antena penerima (2x4).
