Abstract

Needle stick injury often occurs in the health care environment. This event is of concern to hospital services because of the risk of transmitting blood-borne diseases, such as hepatitis B virus (HBV), Hepatitis C virus (HCV), and Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). Impacts that can be caused by needle stick injury itself is very dangerous, for it is necessary to prevent the increasing prevalence of needle stick injury. This study aims to identify the description of the nurse's knowledge level of the needle stick injury in the inpatient room of Siloam Hospital Kupang. This research uses descriptive quantitative design with cross-sectional approach. The sampling technique used total sampling with total sample of 50 nurses. To identify the nurse's knowledge level of needle stick injury, the researcher used a 30-item question. The result of the research shows that the level of nurse knowledge about needle stick injury obtained from the respondents is said to be good with the percentage of 86% (n = 43). From the results of the above research, it can be concluded that the respondents have a good level of knowledge about needle stick injury. As a suggestion to the hospital it is expected to not only maintain a good level of knowledge about needle stick injury but can also be applied in order to reduce the prevalence of needle stick injury events / Luka jarum suntik (needle stick injury) sering terjadi pada lingkungan pelayanan kesehatan. Peristiwa ini menjadi perhatian bagi pelayanan rumah sakit karena resiko untuk menularkan penyakit melalui darah, seperti virus Hepatitis B (HBV), virus Hepatitis C (HCV), dan Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). Dampak yang dapat diakibatkan oleh needle stick injury sendiri sangat berbahaya, untuk itu diperlukan tindakan pencegahan peningkatan prevalensi kejadian needle stick injury. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi gambaran tingkat pengetahuan perawat terhadap needle stick injury di ruang rawat inap Rumah Sakit Umum Siloam Kupang. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain kuantitatif deskriptif dengan pendekatan cross-sectional. Teknik pengambilan sampel menggunakan total sampling dengan jumlah sampel sebanyak 50 perawat. Untuk mengidentifikasi gambaran tingkat pengetahuan perawat tentang needle stick injury, peneliti menggunakan kueisioner yang berjumlah 30 butir soal. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan gambaran tingkat pengetahuan perawat tentang needle stick injury yang diperoleh dari responden dikatakan baik dengan persentase 86% (n=43). Dari hasil penelitian di atas, dapat disimpulkan bahwa responden memiliki tingkat pengetahuan yang baik tentang needle stick injury. Sebagai saran kepada rumah sakit diharapkan untuk bukan hanya mempertahankan tingkat pengetahuan yang baik tentang needle stick injury tetapi juga dapat diterapkan agar dapat mengurangi prevalensi kejadian needle stick injury.
