Abstract

High alert medication was a drug that often leads to serious errors and high risk of causing undesirable effects. The use of high alert medication was commonly found in intensive care unit (ICU). Due to the complexity of treatment in the ICU chamber can causes the susceptibility of medication errors. This medication errors can cause sentinel event, adverse outcome, and lead to death. The purpose of this study was to determine what the role of nurses in management of high alert medication in intensive care unit. The method of this study was using a Literature Review. The literature search uses EBSCO and Pubmed, database and get six articles that relevant and analyzed using thematic analysis approach: simplified thematic approach. The results obtained nurses as nursing carers, collaborator, manager, and patient advocates in the management of alert drugs in Intensive Care Unit. Recommendation for further research is to develop this research by looking at the important role of nurses in the management of high alert medication in intensive care unit to improve the quality of nursing service in Indonesian hospital / Obat high alert adalah obat yang sering menyebabkan terjadinya kesalahan serius dan berisiko tinggi menyebabkan dampak yang tidak diinginkan. Penggunaan obat high alert banyak sekali ditemukan di ruang Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Oleh karena kompleksnya perawatan di ruang ICU, maka hal ini menyebabkan rentannya terjadi kesalahan obat. Kesalahan obat ini dapat menyebabkan efek samping bahkan berujung pada kematian. Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk mengetahui apa peran perawat dalam penatalaksanaan obat high alert medication di ruang Intensive care unit. Metode yang digunakan adalah Kajian Literatur. Pencarian literatur menggunakan database EBSCO dan Pubmed dan mendapatkan 6 literatur yang relevan dan dianalasis menggunakan pendekatan simplified thematic approach. Hasil yang didapatkan adalah perawat berperan sebagai kolaborator, pemberi asuhan keperawatan, manajer, dan advokat pasien dalam penatalaksanaan obat high alert di ruang Intensive Care Unit. Rekomendasi untuk peneliti selanjutnya adalah mengembangkan penelitian ini dengan melihat peranan penting perawat dalam penatalaksanaan obat high alert di ruang Intensive Care Unit untuk meningkatkan kualitas pelayanan keperawatan di rumah sakit Indonesia.
