Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk melihat pengaruh instagram usage terhadap conspicuous online consumption yang dimediasi oleh envy, narcissism dan desire for self-promotion pada pengguna Instagram di wilayah DKI Jakarta. Responden dalam penelitian ini berjumlah 385 orang yang merupakan pengguna Instagram di DKI Jakarta dan sekitarnya (termasuk Bogor, Depok, Tangerang dan Bekasi) dengan umur 18 tahun keatas. Variabel-variabel yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini diukur dengan menggunakan skala Likert. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan teknik non-probability sampling dengan metode judgmental. Untuk pengolahan data dalam penelitian ini menggunakan Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) dengan menggunakan program Smart PLS versi 3. Hasil penelitian adalah instagram usage berpengaruh positif terhadap praktek conspicuous online consumption yang dimediasi oleh perasaan envy, narcissism dan desire for self-promotion. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa semakin sering seseorang mengakses Instagram maka akan memberikan efek perasaan negatif yakni envy atau perasaan positif yakni narcissism. Perasaan envy dan narcissism ini kemudian akan mengarahkan seseorang untuk keinginan self-promotion, yang diikuti engage dengan praktek conspicuous online consumption / The aim of this thesis is to test the influence of Instagram usage toward conspicuous online consumption, which mediated by envy, narcissism and desire for self-promotion. The respondents were 385 active Instagram users in DKI Jakarta and areas surround Jakarta include Bogor, Depok, Tangerang and Bekasi whose age 18 years old and above. All the variables used in this research were measured by using Likert scale. Non-probability sampling with spesifically judgmental method was used in this research. For the data analysis, researcher was using Sctructural Equation Modelling (SEM) with supported by Smart PLS software version 3. The result of this research shows Instagram usage positively related to conspicuous online consumption, which mediated by envy, narcissism, and desire for self-promotion. It further outlines that the more users accessing Instagram, the stronger they feel negative, which is envy emotion or positive feeling which narcissism. This feeling intends users to desire for self-promotion and propensity to engage in conspicuous online consumption
