Abstract

Early Warning Score (EWS) is a proactive approach concept by defining a simple physiological parameter scoring. The nurses’ knowledge, attitudes and compliance are important factors for applying EWS effectively. The preliminary data which is taken from Siloam Hospitals Kupang indicates the high number of code blue incidents occuring at ward Bethesda, followed by the low compliance of Nurses in implementing EWS scoring. This descriptive correlational quantitative study used a cross-sectional approach by distributting questionnaires and observing 32 Nurses at Ward Bethesda Siloam Hospitals Kupang, and the sampling technique was total sampling. The result of univariate data analysis showed, 32 respondents (50%) were knowledgeable, 13 respondents (40,63%) were knoledgeable enough, and 3 respondents (9,37%) were less knowledeable. Respondents with positive and negative attitudes have the same proportion which is 16 respondents (50%). Most respondents were uncompliance to EWS scoring (Compliance : 11 respondents (34,37%); Uncompliance : 21 respondents (56,63%)). The result of chi square bivariate analysis showed that, there was a significant correlation between length of working to compliance of EWS scoring with p value = 0,037 < α (0,05), while there was no significant correlation between knowledge (p value = 0,930 > α) and attitude (p value = 0,147 > α) to compliance of EWS scoring. The lack of intuitive knowledge was the contributting factor of increasing uncompliance, so the Hospital need to improve the quality of EWS Implementation through regular training and monitoring compliance in clinical environment of the Hospital / Early Warning Score (EWS) merupakan konsep pendekatan proaktif dengan menetapkan skoring parameter fisiologis yang sederhana.
