Abstract

Permasalahan sampah botol plastik semakin relevan setiap harinya. Tren penggunaan plastik masih belum mengalami penurunan yang signifikan selama ini, dan solusi yang paling sesuai untuk menangani konsekuensinya pada saat ini adalah dengan mendaur ulang. Adapun kegentingan untuk meningkatkan kesadaran masyarakat akan permasalahan global ini, sekaligus mengingatkan mereka akan apa yang terjadi kepada sampah setelah dibuang. Daur ulang plastik merupakan sebuah proses yang belum banyak dipraktikkan di Indonesia. Selain kesadaran masyarakat yang masih minim,terdapat juga permasalahan pada ketidakefektifan sistem pengelolaan sampah di Indonesia.Hal ini mencakup banyak hal, dari persoalan manajemen hingga kurangnya infrastruktur untuk penanganan sampah. Melihat kondisi ini, penulis menemukan peluang untuk mengintegrasikan fasilitas daur ulang sampah plastik yang sekaligus merupakan experience learning centre bagi publik. Fasilitas daur ulang plastik pun masih jauh dari ideal. Beberapa permasalahan yang terkait berupa: tidak adanya ekspresi desain, sifat bangunan yang tertutup untuk orang luar sehingga tidak transparan, serta ketiadaan fasilitas informatif maupun edukatif bagi masyarakat. Maka dari itu, sebagai solusinya, penulis merancang sebuah tempat pembelajaran pada tipologi bangunan yang tadinya ‘tertutup’ ini. Lingkup penelitian yaitu sekitar teori-teori edukasi daur ulang, experiential architecture (tentang elemen-elemen pembentuk atau penentu kualitas spasial ruang), dan architecture display (tentang strategi dan cara untuk mengekspresikan sebuah objek ke dalam desain arsitektur). / The problem of plastic bottle waste has become increasingly relevant every day. The trend of using plastics has not undergone any significant decline so far, and the most suitable solution to deal with the consequences at this point is recycling. The urgency to raise public awareness on this global problem is also present, as well as to remind them of what happens to waste after it is thrown away. Plastic recycling is a process that is not widely practiced in Indonesia. Apart from the lack of public awareness, there are also problems with the ineffective waste management system in Indonesia. This covers a wide range of issues, from management issues to a lack of infrastructure for waste management. Seeing this condition, the author found an opportunity to integrate a plastic waste recycling facility with an experience learning centre for the public. Plastic recycling facilities are still far from ideal. Some of the related problems are: the absence of design expression, the nature of the building which is closed to outsiders and distransparent, and the absence of informative or educational facilities for the community. Therefore, as a solution, the author designs a place of learning in this “closed” typology of the building. The research scope is about recycling education theories, experiential architecture (about the elements forming or determining the spatial quality of space), and architecture display (about strategies and ways to express and translate an object into architectural design).
