Abstract

Patients in inpatient ward have high risk for nosocomial infection because underlying disease conditions so that the patient is also involved in the prevention nosocomial infections by hand hygiene. In Bougenville ward Siloam Sriwijaya Hospital Palembang which is an adult inpatient room there are many printed media about six steps of hand washing on the wall and there is always hand rub nearby, but the implementation of hand hygiene is still low. The results of observations in ten patients, seven of them did not apply hand hygiene. Purpose study is to know the description of patient's knowledge level in implementation of hand hygiene at Bougenville's ward. This study’s design used the descriptive cross-sectional. The population’s study were all patients in the Bougenville ward 62 patients. The sampling technique is purposive sampling. Samples of this study is 31 patients. The data is analyzed with univariate analysis. The result of this study showed that respondents who have good knowledge were 12 respondents (38,7%), enough knowledge were 18 respondents (58,1%) and bad knowledge were 1 respondent (3,2%). The reccomendation of this study is that the nurse should redemonstrate the patient about six handwashing step as often as possible / Pasien rawat inap beresiko tinggi terhadap terjadinya infeksi nosokomial karena kondisi penyakit yang mendasarinya sehingga pasien juga terlibat dalam pencegahan infeksi nosokomial dengan mencuci tangan. Di Ruang Rawat Inap Bougenville Rumah Sakit Siloam Sriwijaya Palembang terdapat banyak media cetak mengenai enam langkah mencuci tangan yang ditempel di dinding dan selalu bersebelahan dengan hand rub, namun penerapan cuci tangan masih kurang. Hasil observasi pada sepuluh pasien, tujuh diantaranya tidak menerapkan cuci tangan. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui gambaran tingkat pengetahuan pasien dalam penerapan hand hygiene di Ruang Rawat Inap Bougenville. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain penelitian descriptive crosssectional study. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh pasien di Ruang Rawat Inap Bougenville. Jenis penentuan sampel adalah purposive sampling. Analisa data pada penelitian ini menggunakan analisa data univariat. Hasil Penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tingkat pengetahuan dari 31 responden pasien di Ruang Rawat Inap Rumah Sakit Siloam Sriwijaya Palembang yang memiliki pengetahuan baik sebanyak 12 responden (38,7%), pengetahuan cukup sebanyak 18 responden (58,1%), dan pengetahuan buruk sebanyak 1 responden (3,2%). Perlu adanya redemonstrasi dari perawat kepasien tentang enam langkah cuci tangan dengan frekuensi yang cukup sering.
