Abstract

Background: smartphones have been a lifestyle for students in this era. A preliminary study has showed most of 24 students with percentages 95,8% found using smartphones for long duration of time and 53,3% of students have a warned from other. The smartphones is a device that offers sophisticated technology, has similar functions with computers, supporting multitasking and make people’s easy to connect with others (anshari et al 2016). The purpose of the research: to find out about the relationship between long duration uses smartphone with social interaction of the nursing students at a private University in Tangerang. Reasearch Methods: this study uses corelational quantitative methods. The research population are nursing students. The determination of the samples uses a porpusive sampling. The sample in this study number 194 students with purposive sampling. The instruments used are the long durationuses smartphone and social interactions of students. The data analysis techniques used univarious and bivariates analysis to identify about long duration uses smartphone and social interactions of students performed gamma's correlation tests. Results: this research shows 70,1% of respondents use smartphone >7 hours a day 18.6% of respondents use smartphones 5-6 hours a day, 9.3% of respondents use smartphones 3-4 hours a day, 1.5% of respondents use smartphones> 1- 2 hours a day and 0.5% of respondents use a smartphone <1 hour a day. In addition it was found 46.3% of respondents had good social interactions while 53.6% of respondents had poor social interactions.Correlation test results show there is no correlation between the long duration uses smartphone and the social interaction of students (p value = 0,589). Suggestion: Students are expected to be able to use smartphone time well and spend more time directly interactions with the environment.
