Abstract
Background: Hypertension is a condition of increased blood pressure which causes the heart to work more than usual to circulate blood throughout the body. Patients with hypertension more often complain of symptoms such as headaches. To overcome hypertension and headache symptoms, non-pharmacological measures are given, namely Progressive Muscle Relaxation (PMR) which is one of the measures to maintain a deep relaxation state. Objectives: To see whether there is a decrease in blood pressure with symptoms of headache reduced or disappeared in pre and post after the administration of PMR. Methods: Using a quasi-experimental method with one group pretest and posttest design. The number of respondents were 30 people with hypertension with headaches and obtained through convenience sampling technique. Data analysis uses paired Ttest statistical tests. Results: The results of the study showed a decrease in blood pressure and a reduction in headache after PMR. The pre-test results of nine respondents (30 percent) with a hypertension level II (Sistolyc (≥140 mmHg) Diastolyc (≥90 mmHg)) in the post-test were reduced to zero respondents (0 percent). A p value of 0.000 indicates that there is a significant effect of giving PMR therapy to clients with increased blood pressure accompanied by headaches. Recommendation: To get more effective results, PMR therapy can be done independently every day with a span of 10-15 minutes.
