Abstract
Background: Grit is a passion and sustained persistence applied toward long-term achievement. Based on the data from one nursing school in Indonesia, there were 26 out of 1,210 students (2.15%) in the academic year of 2018/2019 who withdrew from nursing program due to various reasons. Most of the times, academic issues do not arise because of lack of cognitive ability but due to a low grit score. Therefore, it is important for nursing students to be gritty in order to be successful in their academic program. Objectives: To identify the grit score of nursing students in Indonesia. Research methods: This is a quantitative descriptive study, employing a total of 241.131 nursing students in Indonesia. Using accidental sampling, this study obtained 401 participants. The instrument used was the Indonesian version of the Grit Score questionnaire developed by Angela Duckworth and was distributed through an online survey. Results: 300 students (74.81%) had high grit and 101 students (25.19%) had low grit. Recommendation: Examining factors that affect grit more specifically.
