Abstract

PT Sumatra Tobacco Trading Company is a company engaged in cigarette industry. The phenomenon that occurs in the company is low employee motivation to work. This can be seen from employees who are less motivated and have the tendency to procrastinate. This research uses the theories about leadership style and its effect on employee motivation. One of the theories used explained that leadership style has effect on employee motivation. The framework of this research is to find out the relationship between leadership style and employee motivation. The method used by the writer in this research is simple linear regression. Data used in this research are primary data and secondary data. This research uses hypothesis test and coefficient determination to know the effect of leadership style on employee motivation. The population size is 496 employees and the sample uses Slovin formula which amounted to 221 respondents. Based on research result, the simple linear regression showed equation of Y = 4.647 + 0.557 X. It means that variable leadership style has a straight relationship to employee motivation. The conclusion on this research is the hypothesis test showed that H0 is rejected, and Ha is accepted, and it means that the leadership style has significantly affect employee motivation at PT Sumatra Tobacco Trading Company. To improve this research, other researchers can add the number of the respondents and it is suggested to add the independent variables that affect the employee motivation./PT.Sumatra Tobacco Trading Company adalah sebuah perusahaan yang bergerak di bidang industri rokok. Fenomena yang terjadi di perusahaan adalah rendahnya motivasi kerja karyawan. Hal ini terlihat dari karyawan yang malas dan suka menunda-nunda. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori tentang gaya kepemimpinan dan pengaruhnya terhadap motivasi kerja karyawan. Salah satu teori yang digunakan menjelaskan bahwa gaya kepemimpinan berpengaruh terhadap motivasi kerja karyawan. Kerangka penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui hubungan antara gaya kepemimpinan dengan motivasi kerja karyawan. Metode yang digunakan penulis dalam penelitian ini adalah regresi linier sederhana. Data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah data primer dan data sekunder. Penelitian ini menggunakan uji hipotesis dan koefisien determinasi untuk mengetahui pengaruh gaya kepemimpinan terhadap motivasi kerja karyawan. Ukuran populasi adalah 496 karyawan, sampel menggunakan rumus Slovin yang berjumlah 221 responden. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, regresi linier sederhana menunjukkan persamaan Y = 4,647 + 0,557 X. Artinya variabel gaya kepemimpinan mempunyai hubungan lurus dengan motivasi kerja karyawan. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah pengujian hipotesis yang menunjukkan bahwa H0 ditolak dan Ha diterima, artinya gaya kepemimpinan berpengaruh signifikan terhadap motivasi kerja karyawan pada PT Sumatra Tobacco Trading Company. Untuk meningkatkan penelitian ini, peneliti lain dapat menambahkan jumlah responden dan disarankan untuk menambahkan variabel bebas yang mempengaruhi motivasi kerja karyawan.
