Abstract
Background: Infection is one of the causes of death children in the world, which is a digestive tract infection. The percentage of coverage children with gastroenteritis nationally is relatively high. Lack of fluids is one of the effects of infant mortality with diarrhea. Lack of knowledge and hygiene behavior are factors that influence the incidence of diarrhea death in children. Mother's knowledge about diarrhea can affect the way mothers handle diarrhea. Based on the observation of researchers in one Village, there are mothers who pay less attention to the cleanliness of the environment around toddlers, such as mothers who sold snacks by the roadside and let toddlers play dirty, this is can increase the incidence of diarrhea. Therefore, this research is very important to do. Objective: To find out the description of mother's knowledge and attitudes about handling gastroenteritis in infants. Method: Quantitative, with a descriptive approach. The total sample of 50 people who have toddlers who have / are experiencing diarrhea by using purposive sampling. The instrument used was a closed statement questionnaire. Results: The mother's knowledge of the handling of acute gastroenteritis in infants in the good category was 36 respondents (72%) and attitudes in the negative category was 26 respondents (52%). Suggestion: For community can open themselves to receive information provided supported by attitudes that lead to clean and healthy life behaviour.
