Abstract

During this pandemic of Covid-19 era, employee retention has become the most concerning issue faced by every companies. Particularly, this automotive company recently laid off their employees to cut expenses. On the other hand, employees are dissatisfied with less award and praise from their manager, resign from the company undisputedly, which in turn give loss to company for incapable of retaining its skillful employees. Hence, in this research, the author tries to investigate the effect of motivation toward employee retention at PT Dipo Internasional Pahala Otomotif Krakatau in Medan, so that it helps the company know how to retain its employees. To do so, the author uses a descriptive quantitative causal research design. The data is gathered by interviewing one of the managers, as well as distributing questionnaire to all the 30 employees of DIPO Krakatau as its samples, thus census sampling method is used, and also to another 30 respondents at DIPO Sisingamangaraja for pretest. These data is later analyzed with SPSS ver. 25.0 for several statistical tests, including tables and graphs. Based on SPSS outputs, the author concludes there is a strong positive effect of motivation toward employee retention at DIPO Krakatau with 51.3% of employee retention is affected by motivation and the other 48.7% by other factors. Besides, t count with 5.433 is bigger than t table with 2.048 and the significant value is 0.000. Lastly, the author recommends the manager to motivate them intrinsically and ensure there is career opportunity for employee retention./Di masa pandemi Covid-19 ini, retensi karyawan menjadi isu paling memprihatinkan yang dihadapi oleh setiap perusahaan. Khususnya, perusahaan otomotif ini baru saja memberhentikan karyawannya untuk memangkas pengeluaran. Di sisi lain, karyawan yang tidak puas dengan penghargaan dan pujian yang kurang dari manajer mereka, mengundurkan diri dari perusahaan tanpa terbantahkan, yang pada gilirannya memberikan kerugian bagi perusahaan karena tidak mampu mempertahankan karyawannya yang terampil. Oleh karena itu, dalam penelitian ini penulis mencoba untuk mengetahui pengaruh motivasi terhadap retensi karyawan pada PT Dipo Internasional Pahala Otomotif Krakatau Medan, sehingga dapat membantu perusahaan mengetahui cara mempertahankan karyawannya. Untuk itu, penulis menggunakan desain penelitian deskriptif kuantitatif kausal. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan cara mewawancarai salah satu manajer serta menyebarkan kuesioner kepada 30 karyawan DIPO Krakatau sebagai sampel, maka digunakan metode pengambilan sampel secara sensus, dan juga kepada 30 responden lainnya di DIPO Sisingamangaraja untuk pretest. Data ini kemudian dianalisis dengan SPSS ver. 25.0 untuk beberapa uji statistik, termasuk tabel dan grafik. Berdasarkan output SPSS, penulis menyimpulkan terdapat pengaruh positif yang kuat dari motivasi terhadap retensi karyawan di DIPO Krakatau dengan 51,3% retensi karyawan dipengaruhi oleh motivasi dan 48,7% lainnya oleh faktor lain. Selain itu, t hitung sebesar 5,433 lebih besar dari t tabel sebesar 2,048 dan nilai signifikansi sebesar 0,000. Terakhir, penulis merekomendasikan manajer untuk memotivasi mereka secara intrinsik dan memastikan ada peluang karir untuk retensi karyawan.
