Abstract

Human resource is one of the most pivotal determinants in achieving organizational success and goals. For this reason, the achievements of organizational goals rely on how well the employees are performing in conducting their job. With this research, the writer intends to study whether employee performance is influenced by leadership and motivation as leadership and motivation are believed as pivotal elements that drive better employee performance. This research is conducted at PT Star Service, a leading and trusted electrical products distributor in Medan. This research adopts quantitative research method to study the causal relationship between the independent variables and the dependent variable. Sample of this research is determined by employing purposive sampling method where 40 employees of PT Star Service is being studied. Data collected in this study is analysed by using multiple linear regression analysis. The finding of this research is that leadership and motivation are proven to have partial and simultaneous influence on employee performance. This conclusion is drawn based on the tcount value for leadership that is shown to be greater than the ttable value (+6.911 > 2.02619) with a significance level less than 0.05 and the tcount value for motivation that is also shown to be greater than ttable value (+4.284 > 2.02619) with a significance level less than 0.05. In addition, the Fcount value for the regression model is shown to be greater than the Ftable value (65.010 > 3.25) with a significance level lowers than 0.05. Furthermore, this research also discovers that 76.6% of employee performance at PT Star Service is influenced by leadership and motivation./Sumber daya manusia adalah salah satu penentu terpenting dalam mencapai keberhasilan dan tujuan organisasi. Untuk itu pencapaian tujuan organisasi sangat bergantung pada seberapa baik kinerja karyawan dalam melaksanakan tugasnya. Dengan penelitian ini, penulis bermaksud untuk mengkaji apakah kinerja karyawan dipengaruhi oleh kepemimpinan dan motivasi karena kepemimpinan dan motivasi diyakini sebagai elemen penting yang mendorong kinerja karyawan menjadi lebih baik. Penelitian ini dilakukan di PT Star Service, distributor produk kelistrikan terkemuka dan terpercaya di Medan. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian kuantitatif untuk mempelajari hubungan sebab akibat antara variabel bebas dan variabel terikat. Sampel penelitian ini ditentukan dengan teknik penentuan sampel dengan pertimbangan tertentu (purposive sampling) dimana penelitian ini dilakukan terhadap 40 karyawan PT Star Service. Data yang terkumpul dalam penelitian ini dianalisis dengan menggunakan analisis regresi linier berganda. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kepemimpinan dan motivasi terbukti berpengaruh secara parsial dan simultan terhadap kinerja karyawan. Kesimpulan ini diambil berdasarkan nilai thitung untuk kepemimpinan yang ditunjukkan lebih besar dari nilai ttabel (+6,911 > 2,02619) dengan tingkat signifikansi lebih kecil dari 0,05 dan nilai thitung untuk motivasi yang juga terbukti lebih besar dari nilai ttabel (+4.284 > 2.02619) dengan tingkat signifikansi kurang dari 0,05. Selain itu, nilai Fhitung untuk model regresi terbukti lebih besar dari nilai Ftabel (65,010 > 3,25) dengan tingkat signifikansi lebih rendah dari 0,05. Selanjutnya, hasil penelitian menemukan bahwa 76,6% kinerja karyawan di PT Star Service dipengaruhi oleh kepemimpinan dan motivasi.
